However, certain products like saffron have been migrated to India as we did not initially have it in our country. Also, other food products that we have today like the tomatoes and the chillies are also an outcome of the foreign migrations that happened here. Even the most humble sugar was not used in India as a sweetening agent before. People here used fruits and honey to make their dishes sweet but after the Portuguese came in, we started using sugar as a sweetener.

In the southern parts of India, the dessert which they absolutely can’t do without is payasam and it is considered there that no weddings are complete without the serving of payasam.
